ICT services have assisted in implementing the Wired Communities at various public housing communities across Victoria, allowing affordable access to technology for residents. The electronic Atherton Community Enterprise (or e-ACE) is Infoxchange Australia’s first and longest running digital inclusion project. 800 households on the Atherton Gardens public housing estate in Fitzroy, Melbourne, were wired up and connected to the Internet with a low cost service, allowing affordable access to technology and training. Recent projects have incorporated wireless mesh technology, which has been successfully implemented and coordinated by the ICT team.
